The
University of Tennessee College of Medicine is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor
continuing medical education for physicians.
Continuing medical education is part of the overall University planning
process and is an integral part of the philosophy fostered within the
University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Continuing Medical Education
programs include primary and specialty care activities and are designed to
reach local, state, regional, and national audiences. Each campus
(Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga) has an Office of Continuing
Medical Education (CME) that function under the umbrella of the
system-wide accreditation by the ACCME. The Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs in Chattanooga, Dr. Robert C. Fore, FACME, is
responsible for overseeing the statewide CME efforts of the UT College
of Medicine.
The mission of the
UT College of Medicine Chattanooga Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) is to
create opportunities for lifelong learning to enhance the skills and
knowledge of physicians and other health care professionals and thereby
improve the quality of health care. The Office of CME strives to provide
quality educational programs for physicians who are part of the Erlanger
Health System as well as those at the state,
regional, national, and international levels. In February 2008, the campus welcomed
Sally B. Ward, MBA, as the Director of CME.
CME programs in Chattanooga operate within the financial resources of the Erlanger
Health System, educational grants, and revenues generated from the
programs. Curricular formats include: formal courses, seminars, workshops,
videoconferences, mini-residencies, intramural teaching conferences,
visiting professorships, and regional community-based outreach programs.
The programs range from Grand Rounds to week-long and multidisciplinary
seminars at resort locations throughout the world.
The Office of CME is currently working toward
developing an institution-wide CME calendar that will be available via a
link on the left hand menu.
Accreditation
Our CME programs are sponsored by the
University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga and The
Erlanger Health System. The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Each
physician should only claim credit for those hours he/she actually
attended.
Virtual CME
Conferencing

The UT College of Medicine Chattanooga has launched a
powerful way for physicians and other health care professionals to stay
current on medical knowledge and to improve patient treatment.
Virtual CME Conferencing means that you can participate from any location
if you have Internet connectivity. Currently several conferences
(such as Internal Medicine Grand Rounds) are transmitted via
videoconferencing and web casting.
