
Accreditation News: The
program received notification January 26, 2007, that the Family Medicine
Residency Review Committee awarded our Family Medicine Residency and
Geriatric Fellowship "Continued Accreditation Status" at its
meeting this month. Both programs received the maximum accreditation
cycle -- five years -- until the next site visit!
A PGY-4 year in geriatric medicine is offered through
the Department of Family Medicine which provides preparation for the
Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. The fellowship
provides a comprehensive training in the care of the elderly in multiple
environments. The training founded in several multidisciplinary team
settings with predominantly one-on-one teaching. The fellow cares for
patients in the hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation center, assisted
living housing, a dedicated elderly outpatient center and private office
setting. A combination of longitudinal and block experiences combine to
create a diverse and stimulating year for the fellow.

As of January 2007, we are pleased to announce
that program's first fellow, Dr. Scott Evans, has passed his Geriatric
Board Examination on first attempt.
