In June 2006, the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) awarded the institution (the UT
College of Medicine Chattanooga) "Continued Accreditation Status."
Our
institution was commended in our efforts to meet accreditation standards of
excellence and received the longest accreditation cycle possible -- five years
until the next institutional site visit.

The UT College of Medicine Chattanooga sponsors nine residency programs as part of the University of Tennessee Statewide Network of Graduate Medical Education:
Emergency Medicine

Family Medicine
Internal Medicine
Obstetrics and Gynecology
Orthopaedic Surgery
Pediatrics
Plastic Surgery
Surgery
Transitional Year
In addition, the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga is accredited to sponsor three advanced
residency/fellowship programs:
Geriatric Medicine
Surgical Critical Care
Vascular Surgery

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery also sponsors a non-accredited
Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma, and the Department of Internal
Medicine will sponsor a non-accredited Fellowship in Hospice/Palliative
Care beginning July 1, 2008. Plans are underway to request
accreditation for the Hospice/Palliative Care Fellowship at the January 2009
meeting of the RRC.
EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Accreditation News: 2/25/2008 - The
ACGME Emergency Medicine Residency Review Committee has approved a new
Emergency Medicine Residency for the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga.
The first residents (6 at the PGY-1 level) will begin training on July

Programs in Process
The ACGME has recently approved fellowship program requirements for a Hospice/Palliative Care
Fellowship, and our the Department of Internal Medicine will be seeking approval to begin
a new fellowship program to begin possibly July 1, 2008.
The Graduate Medical Education programs of the UT College of Medicine
Chattanooga are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
We are proud of the balance that has been achieved between academics and clinical medicine in preparing residents
and fellows for board certification and fellowship or practice at the completion of training.
Residents:
150 residents and fellows are enrolled in the Graduate Medical Education Programs of the
UT College of Medicine Chattanooga for the 2007 - 2008 academic year.
The UT College of Medicine Chattanooga is directed by a full-time Dean,
David C. Seaberg, MD, CPE, FACEP.
In addition, he is assisted by an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and
Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Robert C. Fore, EdD, FACME. A core faculty of approximately 100 paid physicians and 300 physicians volunteer their support and represent the major medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. The chairs of the
UT College of Medicine Chattanooga Departments report directly to our Dean and not to the chairs of corresponding departments at the main Memphis campus.
