On behalf of the Dean, Dr. David C.
Seaberg; the Associate Dean and DIO, Dr. Robert C. Fore; the
Erlanger President, Jim Brexler; and myself, we welcome you to the
University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga and Erlanger.
We are delighted that you have chosen our institution as the training
site for your graduate medical education. This is an exciting time
for both the University and Erlanger. We have been approved to
begin two new programs this year: an Emergency
Medicine Residency and a Vascular Surgery Fellowship. We are also
expanding our Medical Surgical Skills Lab to include a multidisciplinary
Simulation Lab, as well as adding support staff to foster more research
and scholarly activity among our residents and faculty.
This is a busy time for each
of your as well as your training program. We have developed
a tentative schedule for the various orientation activities. You
can click on the 3rd link on the left-hand menu to view the tentative
schedule. We will
email you to check back if changes are made. The last two weeks of
June (beginning Monday, June 16) will be filled with orientation
activities for our new residents and fellows. The first day, June
16, is an orientation luncheon. Although attendance is not
mandatory on that date, we hope you will be able to attend since it will
be a great opportunity to meet your colleagues as well as several chief
residents and program directors with whom you will be working over the
next year or more. BLS, ACLS training, etc., will begin the next
day, June 17. Orientation activities continue through June 30,
2008, concluding with departmental orientation on the 30th. Your
first day of official resident duties and training will be July 1, 2008.
You should receive your
Letter of Commitment from your residency coordinator by Monday, March
24. Please fax back to your coordinator by Friday, March 28.
We need the contact and demographic information on the form over the
next few months.
|
|
Please
email your coordinator before March 28 denoting an email address where
we can keep in touch with you until you move to Chattanooga. |
|
Click the hyperlink to view all required
forms and links: List of
Forms.
Please note - as you complete the forms, when the form asks for current
address, it refers to your local Chattanooga address. Leave it
blank unless you know where you will be living when you start training.
Email your Residency Coordinator when you know your Chattanooga address
and ask her to alert the GME Office, too. Thank you.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education for
the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga is located in Suite 104 (first
floor) of the Whitehall Building just across from our hospital,
Erlanger.
Please read through this entire webpage so
you can click on the hyperlinks, view and print the various forms that
must be completed and returned to us, as well as a checklist of forms.
Several of the forms are in a pdf format that will allow you to enter
your information online (as you view the page on the Internet).
Then you can print them and sign those where a signature is required.
We have been working with the main medical
school campus in Memphis to ensure that all forms you will need to
complete have been updated.
The University of Tennessee has developed
nine online training modules that every resident must complete:
-
HIPAA Security Training
-
Medicare Compliance Training Lesson 1
-
Medicare Compliance Training Lesson 2
-
HIPAA Privacy Training Lesson 1
-
HIPAA Privacy Training Lesson 2
-
Sexual Harassment Avoidance Training
-
HIPAA Privacy Training Update 007
-
Billing Compliance Update 2007
-
Resident Fatigue Training Module
Once we have your full name, date of birth, and
social security number, we will obtain and send you a UT Net ID login
and instructions so you can complete the required online modules prior
to June 30.
Online Resident Handbook:
Before you begin training please go to our
website and read through the
Online Resident Handbook. There are three sections you
especially need to review: Resident Stipends and Benefits, UT GME
Policies and Procedures, and Erlanger Policies and Procedures that apply
to residents. Reviewing these policies will provide you very
helpful information throughout your residency as well as help us ensure
you understand administrative policies that will govern your training.
As soon as you have reviewed the handbook, you can sign and submit a
statement acknowledging that you have reviewed and understand the
policies. You have until June 29 to complete your
review and submit the form. Click
here to view and print the
attestation form for the handbook.
Note: As University of
Tennessee employees, you will be paid once each month on the last
working day of the month. Your first paycheck will be
Thursday, July 31.
