Pediatrics Academic Benefits

Conference Leave:
The Department of Pediatrics allows up to five working days annually for each resident to attend outside conferences.  Conferences must be approved in advance by the Chair and Program Director. 

Resident Professional Development Reimbursement:
The hospital provides annual reimbursement for each resident's professional development expenses.  For example, residents are encouraged to attend national or regional conferenes for their specialty, as well as purchase appropriate medical textbooks and other electronic medical education media.  Since passing USMLE Step 3 is a requirement for promotion to the PL-3 level, residents may be reimbursed for the registration fee for USMLE Step 3 from the annual maximum.  Reimbursement amounts for 2011-2012 are:

PL-1                  $500 maximum

PL-2                  $1000 maximum

PL-3                  $1500 maximum
