Note:  This rotation requires the student be paired with an upper level pediatric resident (PL2 or PL3) and therefore will only be approved the months when a pediatric resident is rotating.


The student will observe and learn to stabilize critically ill patients in order to prevent further deterioration or disability. The student will be exposed to a large number of different types of pediatric patients, seeing approximately 100 patients per week. Medical students will evaluate patients and formulate a treatment plan with the resident or attending. Students will also learn laceration repair and other emergency based procedures, under direct supervision of an attending physician. The student will attend 8:00 am morning report (schedule permitting) and Grand Rounds, Monday through Thursday. A patient and procedure log must be maintained by the student and turned into Dr. Koller at the end of the month.
